A work can be as political as in Bruguera's performance when it expands or changes our consciousness in such a way that no text of other medium can do; when its in its own irreducibly particular way, it impels us to live or think differently. Investigation of perception, not as a passive observation of look at the world but instead as of active, bodily participation in the world, characterizes hers and the other artists' visions in Sublime Embrace. Various questions arise in this show. What is the role of sense perceptions and how do they involve body-awareness? Are there other states between thought and non-thought that are integral parts of our consciousness? These are some of the issues the artists have addressed in this exhibition. In many ways their artistic paths can be seen as searches for essences of the phenomenological studies of experience. 

The artists in Sublime Embrace are creators of what I like to call "potential space", an intermediate area of experience between inner psychic reality and external reality. Surpassing the obvious parameters of art's visuality, they create works that address the spectator, his/her position in relation to the work and celebrate the experience of space, cultivating the moment through a form of meditation or sublime illumination. Akin to philosophers and poets, these artists envision art more than a material medium and explore its ability to affect the imagination in a more intense manner. They return the work to viewer and the dialogue between the two is achieved when physical limitations are surmounted. The emotive response to the beautiful is followed by the wonder of the sublime.
