What's next?

After the submission deadline, we compiles submissions into a package for a jury to review. After the jury makes its selection we respond to all applicants at the beginning of March.

The submission deadline is January 27, 2025 at 9 am.

Step 1: Application Checklist

Do pay careful attention selecting and inputting your artwork details and uploading images; this is the content the jury will use to adjudicate your work.

Before you begin the application process, please be prepared with the following:

  • Artwork Images (up to 7 images of works from , JPG, or JPEG, 72 DPI, 1000 pixels along the longest side)
  • Artwork details including title, year, medium, and size of the work
  • Ensure your images are high quality, clear, in focus, evenly lit, and cropped to artwork edges without a border.
  • Title your image files with last name, first initial, artwork title, dimensions (HXW inches). Only use underscores to note spaces. ex. DoeJ_ArtworkTitle_24x24.jpg
  • An artist statement that directly addresses the experiences that have shaped your practice that you would want to share with collectors. Things to note may include your inspirations, the progression of your studio practice, a description of the themes or processes relatable to the submitted works, or training. Statement must not exceed 200 word limit.

Step 2: FAQs and Tips

No. Applying to participate in the AGH Art Sale is free. The AGH will receive, handle, install and promote your practice and works for the show. The AGH will collect a commission on works sold.

The commission for artwork sold is 50%, with exceptions to that rate to account for artists who have framed their works. The details of the commission rates, terms of payment and a variety of other terms are covered in an artist agreement we review with all artists invited to participate.

We accept all forms of media, however keep in mind most acquisitions are placed in client homes and offices. We most frequently sell framed works on paper (including photographs and prints), canvases, and small sculptural works.

We use the term regional to mostly apply to logistics: if you live close enough to the Art Gallery of Hamilton to be able to deliver and pick up your artwork then you can be considered.

We generally describe our represented region spanning from Peterborough, to Niagara, to London, with exceptions.

We represent limited editions typical of mediums such as photography, digital prints and classical print making traditions (lithography, screenprint etc). Most artist editions are less than 50 total.

Not exactly. We will follow up with artists invited to participate to make a final selection for the Art Sale from the works you have available.

The artwork you apply with should best represent the artwork you will have available for the Art Sale.

In previous years the smallest works included have measured 6x6 in, and the larger works were in excess of 72x48 in.

The clients who collect at the Art Sale tend to collect in a medium to large range, meaning works larger than 24x24 in and up to 48x60 in.

We consider works from artists that all similarly sized, or that span small to large sizes. The important thing is that you represent the scope of the series of work you are submitting.

The pricing of your work depends on several variables:

The average amount of time it takes to create a piece, your education and expertise, material, special equipment, the market you are trying to reach and your existing sales are all factors to consider.

If you are unsure how to proceed, browse the artists on our website to try and locate your work with another comparable artist, and talk to other artists and professionals in the field to help refine your pricing.

Due to the remarkable number of applicants to the Art Sale, we are unable to assist with pricing during the submission process but may make suggestions prior to the Art Sale to participating artists.

Yes. You can take great documentation of your artwork using the cameras on newer phones. You can review a free tutorial by an artist consultant here.

We endeavor to follow up with all applicants promptly after our selections are finalized. Please check back here for an update on timing.

We have limited space available to show works on paper.

We typically prefer works on paper to be framed or 'installation ready'.
