Artist Bio: Katherine Southam
Having grown up in Quebec’s Eastern Townships and Ontario’s Rideau Lakes environment, woodlands and lake lands have been integral to Katherine's artistic sensitivity and development, and they continue to inform their artistic practice. An Art History degree at Concordia University, Montreal, awakened their interest in mythological iconography and the surrealist movement. A degree in Glass and Ceramics at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, northern England, then led to establishing Southam's own studio practice, working with glass in its kiln glass form for over a decade. More recently, they completed an MA in Glass at the Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland. Katherine has been a resident artist at Loretta Studios and Gallery in Ottawa for the past 7 years where they work and teach glass casting.
