Anne Kahane (b. Vienna, Austria in 1924; d. Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 2023) is a Montreal artist who has been at the forefront of Canadian art since the 1950s. From being the first woman sculptor to represent Canada at the Venice Biennale in 1958, she continued to gain recognition across the country well into the 2000s for her figurative works in wood and innovative metal forms. Found in the collections of major Canadian institutions, Kahane’s art addresses the nature of the human condition with keen observation and playful wit.
