Marta Hewson
Marta Hewson was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal.
She became interested in photography at the age of 15 and eventually moved to Canada to study photography at Sheridan College. Marta apprenticed in the Fashion Photography industry in Toronto before moving to Hamilton, Ontario, and opening her own studio. The studio specializes mostly in Portraiture and Branding, but Marta uses a fashion photography approach for all of her work.
Growing up during the supermodel era, Hewson always found a deep fascination in how fashion photographers used images to stop the viewer in their tracks. Those ‘stoppers’ became a benchmark for how she chooses to approach her work today.
After 25 years of shooting fashion and portraiture, she’s exploring fine art with the same goal: to create images that make you pause, and that stay with you after you’ve moved on. Marta’s work is about exploration and experimentation; testing out a new technique, finding a new prop, working with a new model and pushing the boundaries of poses, or just playing with how light reacts with certain objects. For Marta, the process of creating a photograph, is just as exciting as the final image itself.
