Ethel Voronkova

Ethel Voronkova

Ethel Voronkova is an Ontario-based, stylized abstract artist. Born in the Philippines, she moved to Canada with her family at the age of nine and since 2017 has pursued development of her artistic practice full-time.

Influenced by the work of Helen Frakenthaler, Voronkova has adopted a soak-stain technique into the creative process of her most recent series of paintings. Working on raw canvas, she layers colour onto the unprimed surface areas and deliberately leaves sections of this underpainting exposed to add warmth, depth, and a sense of looseness to her compositions. As she further describes, “this collection of works has been inspired by nights painting in the studio and getting lost in [her] own world.”

Voronkova studied Fine Art at Centennial College and Graphic Design at Humber College, ON. She has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions including presentations at Arta Gallery and Twist Gallery in Toronto, the annual juried exhibitions at the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and One-Of-A-Kind Show in Toronto, and a solo-exhibition at the Hamilton City Hall. Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada and rented by corporate businesses throughout Ontario. She currently lives and works in Brantford, ON.
