E. Robert Ross
Born in Hamilton and raised in Burlington, Ontario, E. Robert Ross began painting seriously shortly after graduating from high school. Early years spent camping in northern Ontario, coupled with an appreciation for photography, led to his decision to embrace landscape painting as a primary subject of his artistic practice. A former student of Robert Bateman, Ross paints in a precise, realistic style. His compositions are deliberate, carefully edited and designed to strike a balance between sky, earth and water. As he comments:
“When I am outdoors, I embrace the spiritual aspect of the experience. Through my work, I try to achieve a contemplative, meditative state in order to reflect this magical quality.”
Ross’s work can be found in many corporate, private and public collections throughout the world and locally, including the collections of the City of Hamilton, Dofasco Inc., Stelco Inc. and the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
