Danielle Cole

Danielle Cole

Danielle Cole is a Toronto-based artist whose playful collage practice assembles original vintage graphics into sharp, imaginative compositions that often explore the absurdity of domestic roles and material desire. Working exclusively with hand-cut and glued materials dating from the 1800s to the 1960s, she is especially drawn to the narrative and visual charge of archival imagery; selected works include collages made from 1940s issues of Ontario’s Farmers Magazine, featuring local farm wives pictured in their finest dress. Cole cites Wangechi Mutu and Barbara Kruger among her key influences, bringing together wit, critique, and visual boldness in works that feel both nostalgic and incisive.

Her collages are held in the Kanyer Collection in Washington and a gallery collection in Sanquhar, Scotland, and her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Knoxville Museum of Modern Art. Her practice has also been featured in publications such as KolajToronto Life, and CBC Arts, and through public and community-based projects across Toronto.
