Sylvia Nickerson is an artist, writer and illustrator whose work has examined gender identity, social class and religion.
Her book Creation (2019, Drawn & Quarterly) won a Doug Wright Award and she won the Hamilton Arts Award for Visual Arts in 2018. Her work was included in the exhibition This Is Serious: Canadian Indie Comics at the Art Gallery of Hamilton where she was artist-in-residence throughout the global pandemic period (2020/21).
Nickerson is currently working on a new book entitled Dark Mirrors: a graphic novel set in a speculative technological future. In the coming years she would like to create non-fiction books that are both beautiful and informative about science-based topics like women’s reproductive health and the history of mathematics.
Sylvia Nickerson is currently based in Hamilton, ON.
