Samuel Choisy’s artistic practice engages a unique approach to photography. His photographing of paper cut-outs in motion against painted backgrounds result in brightly colored, abstract formations. Using a ‘light-painting technique’ guided by a particularly developed set of strategies, he aspires to replicate the patterns of nature, indoors. Hotel rooms and short-term rentals have become Choisy’s choice spaces of production, where the luminous shapes that emerge by his process are set in tension with the place in which they are created. Speaking to his source of motivation, Choisy shares:
“I'm relentlessly chasing the state of wonderment that first occurred in art school when, on my way to becoming a painter, I discovered photography.”
