Joanna Gresik

Joanna Gresik’s work explores the experience of moving through the built environment, depicting abstracted visions of landscape, urban life, and architecture in oil, acrylic and watercolour media. After receiving her bachelor's degree in Interior Design from Humber College in 2009, Joanna Gresik worked as a corporate interior designer before deciding to return to school to pursue a Bachelor's of Fine Art degree in Drawing and Painting at OCAD University. In relation to her fine art practice, Gresik describes:

“My paintings are an attempt to translate the experiences of moving through the landscape onto canvas. These images are not a single moment, but many at once; fleeting and familiar but not always recognizable. Engaging colour combinations and energetic brushstrokes metaphorically point to the energy and vibrancy of urban life.”

Her interest in architecture and urban space, in alignment with her ongoing experience working as a corporate interior designer, continue to deeply influence her painting practice. Gresik’s work is held in private and corporate collections in Canada and the United States. She is currently based in Burlington, ON.
