David Appleyard
David Appleyard, under the pseudonym Coupes de Lapin, is a Hamilton based collage artist specializing in copiously layered floral, cottage-core arrangements.
David utilizes patience, precise cuts, and vintage paper to create wholesome, kaleidoscopically symmetrical scenes to evoke tranquility within the viewer. Appleyard is heavily inspired by whimsy, psychedelia, the classic works of Beatrix Potter, the beauty in the idyllic, and most importantly, his twice Trillium Award winning late grandmother, Ruth.
A Hamiltonian from birth, David was raised in the shadow of Dofasco. Growing up in the industrial sector, amidst the hues of soot and grime, his grandmother's vibrant garden would become a refuge. David's work is a love letter to the secrets held within the serenity of the nature that surrounds us.
